Morning Class with Laïla Diallo

Laïla's class will move between guided movement exploration and set material. It will offer an opportunity to seek ease and articulacy in our moving, and to play with our relation to gravity, to the space we move in and across, and to each other. As the class progresses, we will move in and out of the ground more, and delve into longer, more intricate and dynamic sequences of set material.

About Laïla Diallo

Laïla is a dance maker and performer based in Bristol who, alongside independently and collaboratively devising works for live performance, often works as movement director in theatre and opera.

For opera and theatre, credits include: ABBA Voyage (Live band choreography), Rigoletto, Otello, Un Ballo in Maschera (Opera North); Wonder Boy (Bristol Old Vic); Emilia, Three Seagulls (Bristol Old Vic Theatre School), Aïda, War and Peace (Canadian Opera Company); Thérèse Raquin, All’s Well That Ends Well (National Theatre); The Prince of Homburg, Dance of Death (Donmar); Tis Pity She’s a Whore (West Yorkshire Playhouse).

Image description: Laïla is crossing the frame of the camera. It is a hips-to-head shot. She is falling, her back to us, one arm swinging forward and up, the other arm out in the opposite direction, for balance maybe. Short-black haired, brown-skinned, she is wearing a two-piece red and yellow outfit, not unlike that of an old-fashioned superhero. A bit tight. The image is blurry.
