A
gig
held at Cafe Kino
on Friday 17th November. The event starts at 20:00pm.
BLAZING FLAME QUINTET
Steve Day (voice, words, percussion), Mark Langford (tenor sax, bass clarinet), Peter Evans (5 string electric violin), Julian Dale (double bass, cello), Anton Henley (drums, percussion),
Blazing Flame Quintet improvise nu-contemporary jazz centred on the songs of poet, Steve Day. French critic, David Cristol described their latest CD as “mindblowing.”
Rigobert Dittman described vocalist/poet Steve Day’s music as having “astonishing imagination and an alchemical flame...” and Jazzwise has referred to Peter Evan’s electric violin being on “starling form”. They include a true phenomenon of the UK downtown scene, Mark Langford on tenor sax & bass clarinet.
Tonight they are joined by special guests, The Drop Outs featuring the brilliant guitarist Phil Gibbs, teamed with free-jazz drum & bass, Roger Skerman and Paul Anstey. A double 2017 exploratory improv entertainment that cuts to the head, heart and body.
THE DROP OUTS
Phil Gibbs (guitar), Paul Anstey (double bass), Roger Skerman (drums)
They dropped out of jazz into spontaneous improv. Steve Holtje (USA) writes about Phil Gibbs “impressive guitar gymnastics.” Skerman & Anstey are cutting edge drum & bass.
£5 on the door.
